With extensive experience in cannabis operations, including extraction, quality control, and regulatory compliance, Alex possesses a unique, firsthand understanding of the industry’s complexities. This operational insight allows him to effectively translate the technical nuances of cannabis science into accessible, impactful education for both consumers and regulators.

Arnelle Etienne

Vice President

As the Vice President of the MCSA, Arnelle is dedicated to shaping the future of the cannabis industry and creating opportunities for MCST students and alumni. She aims to create, illuminate, and share career opportunities within the community. In a rapidly changing industry, she believes there is the power to make a difference.

Arnelle's primary goal is to introduce cannabis businesses to the incredible talent within their program and establish lasting relationships for future employment and collaboration. She is passionate about forging partnerships with businesses to develop scholarships, grants, internship programs, and fellowships that will benefit both MCST students and graduates.

Her passion for cannabis is deeply rooted in her belief in the healing power of nature. She has witnessed how cannabis can transform lives and maintain balance for individuals throughout their day. It's this transformative potential that drives her dedication to the cannabis industry and fuels her commitment to creating positive change.

KC Klens

1st Year Vice President

KC Klens is the 1st Year Vice President of the Medical Cannabis Student Association, bringing nearly a decade of hands-on industry experience to their role. KC first became involved in the cannabis industry in 2016 through grassroots activism, volunteering with Students for Sensible Drug Policy and the Florida Cannabis Coalition. They have since held a variety of roles within the cannabis space, including dispensary and inventory management, sales, event logistics, public education, compliance, and recruiting, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the industry from the ground up.

With a Biology degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, KC’s interests span state regulation, product research, data analysis, genetic research, political analysis, and anti-corporate practices within the cannabis industry. They have also interned and worked for the former industry recruiting firm THC Staffing Group, gaining invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing cannabis professionals today.

Originally from Indiana and a long-time resident of Florida, KC is an avid creator and outdoor enthusiast, finding balance through yoga, painting, photography, longboarding, and the occasional video game. Their commitment to advocacy and passion for shaping the future of cannabis policy make them a vital leader within the MCSA.

Brandi Bakalik

Director of Project Management

Brandi Bakalik is the Director of Project Management for the Medical Cannabis Student Association and a first-year student currently residing in Buffalo, New York. With an academic background in Horticulture and a specialization in Cannabis, Brandi brings a wealth of practical industry experience to her role, including managing two dispensaries in New York State and overseeing the entire buildout and commence operations of a new location, Dream Daze, in Buffalo.

Brandi has been a keystone member of the MCSA’s Operations Committee, dedicating countless hours to planning and coordinating events across various committees while simultaneously organizing the association’s entire electronic drive on the cloud. Her exceptional organizational skills and commitment to operational excellence have been instrumental in creating a more efficient and connected MCSA, providing a strong foundation for future growth.

Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Brandi enjoys spending time in nature through hiking, snowboarding, and finding creative ways to stay active during Buffalo’s snowy winter months. Her passion for both the cannabis industry and outdoor adventure make her a dynamic and influential leader within the MCSA.

Alexis Little

Director of Finance

Alexis Little is the Director of Finance for the Medical Cannabis Student Association and a results-driven finance leader with extensive experience in financial operations, public accounting, consulting, and venture-backed startups. Throughout her career, Alexis has specialized in building and leading high-performing teams, crafting financial strategies, and implementing scalable systems that drive measurable cost savings and operational efficiency.

Her work within the MCSA has been foundational, providing the organization with financial clarity and long-term sustainability. Alexis has developed forward-thinking tools and templates, including a robust financial tracking system, that future cohorts will rely on for years to come. Her strategic insight has helped ensure the smooth flow of resources and accountability across the MCSA’s diverse projects and initiatives.

Currently pursuing her M.S. in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Alexis brings a unique edge to her work at the intersection of finance and cannabis. Her understanding of the scientific and regulatory landscape enables her to align financial planning with the nuanced realities of cannabis operations, making her a vital bridge between business strategy and industry compliance.

LaKeshia Ashley

Executive VP of Advocacy

LaKeshia Ashley is the Executive Vice President of Advocacy for the Medical Cannabis Student Association, bringing over 15 years of experience as a psychotherapist and clinical social worker to her role. With a Master’s degree in Social Work and licensure in multiple states, LaKeshia has dedicated her career to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to individuals navigating complex mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, and trauma recovery.

LaKeshia’s diverse professional background spans private practice, community mental health organizations, and residential treatment facilities, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the barriers and complexities surrounding mental health and wellness. She is a passionate advocate for integrative approaches to mental health, including the use of medical cannabis as a therapeutic tool, and has been featured on the podcast “CannaTalks with Roz” to share her insights on the power of narrative medicine and extended assessments in fostering holistic healing.

In addition to her clinical work, LaKeshia is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of clinicians, ensuring that new professionals have the skills, knowledge, and compassion needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Her advocacy extends beyond the therapy room, as she works to raise awareness about the benefits of integrative mental health care and the importance of reducing stigma around both mental illness and medical cannabis use.

Outside of her professional life, LaKeshia finds balance through travel, spending quality time with family and friends, and embracing a holistic approach to both life and work.

Roman Ipanag

1st Year VP of Advocacy

Roman Ipanag serves as the 1st Year Vice President of Advocacy for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. A passionate advocate for patient rights, social equity, and worker protections, Roman is committed to improving the cannabis industry through education, accountability, and meaningful policy reform. He strongly believes that establishing universal standards and holding the industry to high ethical practices is essential for elevating the perception of medical cannabis and ensuring long-term patient safety.

Roman’s dedication to worker’s rights runs deep. At one of his previous places of employment, he played a key role in organizing a union, standing up for fair treatment, workplace protections, and better working conditions for his colleagues. This firsthand experience with labor organizing has made him a staunch supporter of employee rights within the cannabis industry, driving his commitment to ensuring that workers have a voice in shaping the industry’s future.

Outside of his advocacy work, Roman is a natural connector who thrives on building relationships, sharing ideas, and fostering a sense of community. He enjoys dancing, live music, hiking, and playing chess, embracing the same passion and curiosity in his personal life that he brings to his work within the MCSA.

Kahaloha Whitt

Executive VP of Education

Kahaloha (Kah) Whitt is the Executive Vice President of Education for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. Based in the beautiful state of Colorado, Kah is a dedicated Tissue Culture Lab Manager with a passion for science, precision, and plant health. With years of experience managing complex projects, cultivating at a commercial scale, and leading diverse teams, Kah brings technical expertise and visionary leadership to her role within the MCSA.

Outside the lab, Kah is a vocal advocate for veganism, constantly exploring plant-based lifestyles that promote health, sustainability, and conscious living. She believes in making mindful choices that positively impact the environment and the cannabis industry alike.

In her downtime, Kah finds balance through mindful cannabis use, integrating the plant into a wellness-centered routine that reflects her holistic approach to life. Whether she’s pushing the boundaries of tissue culture techniques or discovering innovative, sustainable solutions, Kah remains deeply committed to growth, discovery, and excellence in both her professional and personal life.

Nick Prosper

1st Year VP of Education

Nick Prosper serves as the 1st Year Vice President of Education for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. A proud Baltimore native, Nick has a deep passion for both science and culinary arts, often blending his interests by experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. His fascination with science and its everyday applications drives his commitment to cannabis education and advocacy, as he seeks to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and real-world impact.

Nick’s motivation comes from his younger brother, Roman, who is on the autism spectrum and serves as a constant source of inspiration. This personal connection has fueled Nick’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and educational access for all, making him a compassionate and driven leader within the MCSA.

As a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Nick lives by the principles of brotherhood, scholarship, and service, carrying these values into his work with the MCSA. His commitment to these ideals is reflected in his approach to education, community building, and cannabis advocacy.

Director of Public Health

Simone Burdick

Simone Burdick is the Director of Public Health Education for the Medical Cannabis Student Association for the 2024-2025 academic year. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Simone holds a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology with minors in Chemistry and Sustainability from California State University, Chico. With a strong foundation in scientific research and hands-on experience as a quality control chemist, Simone is pursuing a career as a cannabis pharmacist, aiming to bridge the gap between medicine and education to empower patients with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions.

Coming from a family of educators, Simone has always understood the transformative power of education, particularly in areas as complex and often misunderstood as cannabis. Her work within the MCSA reflects this commitment, as she seeks to address critical public health issues within the cannabis industry, including the importance of safety regulations, the impact of early cannabis use, and the promotion of responsible consumption habits.

As a second-year student in the Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Simone draws inspiration from the collaborative, purpose-driven spirit of the MCSA. She is dedicated to creating educational initiatives that advance the public understanding of cannabis, ensuring that patients, policymakers, and professionals alike have access to accurate, science-based information.

Jason Woodward

Director of Extraction Science

Jason Woodward is a motivated, passionate, and deeply experienced cannabis professional who’s been immersed in extraction labs since early 2018. He’s currently the Laboratory Director at a multi-state operator in New England, where he leads extraction efforts with a focus on innovation and quality. He also serves as the Director of Extraction Sciences for the Medical Cannabis Student Association, helping connect academic knowledge with the realities of running a lab.

Over the years, Jason has led extraction labs in six different states, developing everything from infused products in California to water-soluble medical cannabis products for mucosal delivery in Massachusetts. He’s worked hands-on with hydrocarbon, supercritical CO₂, and solventless extraction methodologies, and has built efficient, compliant systems while mentoring teams across the country.

Now finishing his M.S. in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland, Jason brings academic insight to an already rich foundation of industry experience. He’s always looking for ways to grow, improve, and support the people and spaces around him. His path in the cannabis world is a reminder that mastery isn’t given, it’s built through curiosity, consistency, passion, and determination.

Dream Slaughter

Executive VP of Networking

Dream Slaughter serves as the Executive Vice President of Networking for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Dream now calls Miami, FL home, while proudly maintaining roots in Chattanooga, TN. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, Dream has dedicated the past several years to the retail hemp industry, owning and operating hemp stores and dab bars in both Chattanooga and Nashville.

A passionate advocate for connecting students with professional opportunities, Dream has been instrumental in bridging the gap between emerging talent and established professionals through the USG Mentor Program and the MCST Program. Looking ahead, Dream plans to attend pharmacy school in Fall 2026, with a growing interest in cannabis research and the scientific exploration of its therapeutic potential.

Outside of work, Dream finds inspiration in live music, hiking through beautiful landscapes, and appreciating art in all its forms – a fitting balance to the fast-paced world of cannabis entrepreneurship.

Emma Salazar

Director of Future Professions

Emma Salazar is the Director of Future Professions for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. Emma is actively involved in cutting-edge cannabinoid pharmacology research at the Johns Hopkins Cannabis Science Laboratory, where she contributes to two major projects: “The Effect of Delta-8-THC vs Delta-9-THC on Simulated Driving Performance and Measures of Impairment” and “The Impact of Product Formulation on the Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Cannabis Edibles.”

Through her work in the lab, Emma is gaining hands-on experience in the complex science of cannabinoid pharmacology while simultaneously fostering a passion for patient advocacy and the promotion of safe access to tested medical cannabis. Her dual focus on research and advocacy positions her as a forward-thinking leader within the cannabis community, dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific discovery and patient care.

As the Director of Future Professions, Emma is committed to helping fellow students navigate the evolving landscape of cannabis careers, ensuring that the next generation of cannabis professionals is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to thrive in this dynamic industry.

Tia Dickerson

Director of Alumni Relations

Tia Dickerson is the Director of Alumni Relations for the Medical Cannabis Student Association, bringing a lifelong passion for community building and leadership to her role. A graduate of Coppin State University with a Bachelor’s in Social Science, Tia has held Student Government Association roles at every step of her educational journey, making her a seasoned advocate for student voices and a natural leader within the MCSA.

With a background in Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts, Tia understands the value of creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where connections can flourish. She is also Dispensary I & II Certified through Howard County Community College, providing her with a strong foundation in the cannabis industry.

Tia’s relationship with cannabis is like your favorite cousin at the cookout – warm, welcoming, and always down for a good time. After graduation, she hopes to open a cannabis lounge or cafe, similar to Stoned; a space where good vibes, great conversations, and meaningful connections can thrive.

Marie (Ellyn) Johnson, MD

Director of Public Relations

Marie (Ellyn) Johnson is the Director of Public Relations for the Medical Cannabis Student Association and a seasoned adult psychiatrist with over 10 years of experience providing compassionate, evidence-based care to both US military personnel and civilian patients. With a diverse clinical background that spans outpatient, inpatient, and emergency room settings, Marie has developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by her patients, making her a highly effective and empathetic healthcare professional.

As an advocate for patient-centered cannabis policies, Marie leverages her extensive clinical experience to promote the therapeutic potential of medical cannabis and support the development of non-traditional, integrative healthcare models. Known for her confident clinical decision-making and innovative approach to patient care, Marie is dedicated to expanding access to safe, effective cannabis-based therapies, helping to reshape the narrative around medical cannabis use.

Kamille Jones

Executive VP of Marketing

Kamille Jones serves as the Executive Vice President of Marketing for the Medical Cannabis Student Association, bringing a wealth of experience in event coordination, advertising, public relations, and brand strategy to her role. A graduate of Morgan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Kamille is a seasoned administrative professional with a deep understanding of how to effectively communicate and connect with diverse audiences.

Since joining the MCSA in the spring, Kamille has quickly made her mark, spearheading the acquisition and design of unique MCST merchandise, including class rings, jewelry accessories, and other mission-relevant gear that celebrates the identity and spirit of the association’s members.

Shannon Steele

Shannon Steele serves as the Director of Merchandise and Advertising for the Medical Cannabis Student Association. With extensive experience in business operations and team leadership as a CVS Pharmacy manager, Shannon has developed a deep understanding of what it takes to keep a business running at full capacity. His background in retail management has equipped him with the skills needed to oversee merchandising, advertising, and organizational growth within the MCSA.

Shannon’s journey into the world of medical cannabis is a deeply personal one. Following an auto accident nearly a decade ago, he successfully transitioned from relying on pharmaceutical pain medications to using medical cannabis for pain relief. This transformative experience has driven his passion for cannabis education and advocacy, motivating him to expand his knowledge and contribute to the growing medical cannabis community.

With a focus on both professional and personal growth, Shannon is committed to supporting the MCSA’s mission to destigmatize cannabis use, promote patient access, and empower the next generation of industry leaders.

Adrienne Kelly

Director of Social Media

Adrienne Kelly serves as the Director of Social Media for the Medical Cannabis Student Association and is the founder of Anointed Khaos, a groundbreaking initiative focused on advancing medical cannabis advocacy through innovative, community-driven strategies. With a deep commitment to building connections, addressing historical disparities, and creating safe, inclusive spaces for conversation, Adrienne is a powerful voice for equity within the cannabis industry.

Through Anointed Khaos, Adrienne has developed a comprehensive approach to advocacy, ensuring that clear, impactful messages reach diverse audiences and drive meaningful progress. As the medical cannabis industry continues to evolve, Adrienne is dedicated to shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all, leveraging her platform to amplify underrepresented voices and promote patient access.

Rae Gross

Director of Content Strategy

Rae Gross, MS, is the Director of Content Strategy for the Medical Cannabis Student Association and a passionate educator and instructional designer with a strong background in mathematics education. With extensive experience in curriculum development, textbook authorship, and adult learning, Rae is dedicated to making complex concepts accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.

In addition to her role at the MCSA, Rae is a lecturer at Towson University and the founder of High Schooled, a cannabis education and training company focused on breaking down the science of cannabis in creative, practical, and genuinely fun ways. Through High Schooled, Rae is developing workshops, retreats, and digital learning experiences for dispensary teams, aspiring budtenders, and the canna-curious, bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and real-world application.

With a commitment to education that extends beyond traditional classrooms, Rae aims to empower the next generation of cannabis professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this evolving industry.

Mandi Dillard

Director of Brand Development

Mandi Dillard is a 6-year veteran of the cannabis industry and a second-year student in the Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. As the Director of Brand Development for the Medical Cannabis Student Association, Mandi has been instrumental in shaping the association’s visual identity, collaborating closely with the marketing committee to create distinctive branding elements, including a MCSA branding guide, newsletter templates, t-shirts, and other fun merchandise.

With extensive experience in marketing, cannabis events, education, and digital design, Mandi brings a creative, hands-on approach to every project. She is passionate about building connections within the cannabis community, fostering collaboration, and creating memorable, impactful designs that reflect the spirit of the MCSA.

Eager to network and engage with like-minded professionals, Mandi continues to be a driving force behind the MCSA’s branding efforts, helping to craft a vibrant, recognizable identity for the student association as it grows and evolves.

Dr. Tiffany Buckley

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Tiffany R. Buckley, PharmD is board certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) and a board certified psychiatric pharmacist (BCPP) who is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California San Francisco. She completed her acute care pharmacy residency at Yale New Haven Health, then completed specialized residency in psychiatric pharmacy at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

She is an award-winning, founding faculty member of the pioneering Master of Science program in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. With a focus on psychiatric pharmacy, Dr. Buckley is a leading expert in medical cannabis therapeutics, psychedelics, and an advocate for evidence-based approaches to mental health care. Dr. Buckley designs innovative courses on topics such as how cannabis affects mental health, strategies for safe cannabis use, science writing through storytelling, clinical uses of psilocybin, and clinical applications of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy. She employs teaching techniques aimed at cultivating adaptable and creative thinkers with strong clinical and research skills.

Dr. Buckley specializes in selecting and managing medications for patients who have psychosis that is not responding to medications. She currently practices as an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Pharmacist at the University of Maryland Midtown. As a trusted voice in the community, Dr. Buckley is committed to making complex information accessible and relevant, especially when it comes to protecting the mental health of the Black community.
